The Asian American Studies Program at Cornell University provides an interdisciplinary curriculum exploring the histories, identities, community formations, politics, and contemporary issues of people of Asian ancestry in the United States and other parts of the Americas. The program features courses in history, literature, film and media, anthropology, and sociology, such as 'Introduction to Asian American Studies' (AAS 1100), Asian American Oral History, and various topics on diasporas and race. Founded in 1987 as the first such program in the Ivy League, it draws expertise from faculty across the humanities and social sciences, aiming to deepen students’ understanding of Asian American experiences in social, historical, and political contexts. Students may pursue a major or minor, undertake research, and engage in campus and community advocacy.
