The programme is hosted by the Institute for Materials and Processes (IMP) in the School of Engineering, College of Science & Engineering. IMP unites researchers across materials science and chemical, mechanical, and bio-engineering to conduct research on design, synthesis, and processing of materials, as well as biomedical and process engineering. The Institute highlights strengths in carbon capture engineering, biomedical/biological engineering, and provides excellent laboratory facilities, including advanced instrumentation for adsorption, biomedical engineering, conservation materials science, high-pressure/high-temperature materials synthesis, ice mechanics, and capabilities in multiphase flows and multiscale modelling. Research students receive interdisciplinary training and transferable skills via the University’s Institute for Academic Development (IAD), are encouraged to present at conferences and journals, and take part in the Graduate School’s annual Postgraduate Research Conference.
