The MSc by Research in Infrastructure & the Environment is a research-focused master’s within the School of Engineering’s Institute for Infrastructure and Environment (IIE), one of the UK’s leading centres of civil and environmental engineering research. Students undertake an independent research project under academic supervision in areas spanning structures under fire and extreme events, fire safety engineering, shells and containment structures, nonlinear finite element analysis of complex collapses, granular and multiphase media, computational and bio-mechanics, fibre‑reinforced polymer composites, high‑speed rail, intelligent infrastructure and non‑destructive evaluation, and sustainable environmental engineering including water and wastewater treatment, water supply, and resource recovery. The programme offers access to advanced laboratories and computing facilities for experimental and computational research.
