The MSc Social Research provides rigorous training in research design and in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, with additional options in computational social science. It is the flagship postgraduate degree of the School’s Research Training Centre and includes a specialist pathway in Social Research with Quantitative Methods linked to the Edinburgh Q‑Step Centre. The curriculum comprises core courses in quantitative/qualitative methods and research design, specialist electives across advanced methods and substantive social science areas, and a 15,000‑word dissertation, with an optional placement‑based dissertation route.
