This taught MSc provides an advanced, interdisciplinary understanding of the Islamic Middle East across history, modern politics, society and culture, combining critical readings, research skills and methods training, option courses across specialisms, and optional language learning. Assessment includes seminars, presentations, essays and a 15,000-word dissertation; dissertations are automatically considered for the Yasir Suleiman Prize. The programme leverages Edinburgh’s dedicated Islamic Library and over 23,000 IMES resources and is housed in the School of Literatures, Languages & Cultures and the Alwaleed Centre network.
