The General LLM offers a flexible curriculum drawn from masters-level courses across Edinburgh Law School, allowing students to tailor their studies without specialising in one area. The programme comprises 180 credits: 120 credits of taught courses (typically 60 per semester) and a 10,000-word dissertation worth 60 credits. There are no compulsory courses; however, to reflect broad expertise, limits apply to how many credits can be taken from any single subject area. Teaching involves varied formats with expectations for pre-class preparation; class participation is assessed. A supervisor is allocated for the dissertation, designed as an independent piece of research and analysis.
