The taught MSc in History is a comprehensive programme delivered by one of the largest groups of historians in any UK university. It develops specialised knowledge of history and its central issues, training in evaluating historical sources and existing research, and culminates in an independent research dissertation under supervision. Students take two compulsory core courses (Historical Methodology; Developing Historical Research) plus four options from a wide-ranging catalogue, typically taught in small-group seminars. The School also offers a fully online MSc History with equivalent learning outcomes delivered via live virtual seminars, discussion forums, and themed weekly teaching.
