In MA Ancient History you study the history of ancient Greece and Rome, with options to study other civilisations that interacted with them (e.g., Judaea, Persia, Byzantine). You contextualise Graeco-Roman history across religious, social, economic, political and cultural dimensions, working with sources from classical historians (e.g., Herodotus, Tacitus) to inscriptions, papyri and archaeological results. Year 1 covers survey courses on Greek and Roman worlds; Year 2 includes two ancient history courses plus classics options; Year 3 features four ancient history honours courses and two further options across ancient history, classical art/archaeology, literature in translation, or language; Year 4 includes a dissertation and additional honours options. Teaching occurs within the School of History, Classics and Archaeology with access to School facilities and University libraries and nearby national collections.
