The Master of Comparative Law (MCL) program at the University of Michigan Law School is designed for students and legal professionals who already hold a first degree in law from a foreign country. The program allows students to pursue advanced studies in comparative law, enabling them to gain intensive training in the principles and methods of comparing legal systems. MCL students can engage in independent research (up to 6 credits) supervised by faculty, and have access to one of the most comprehensive course offerings in international, comparative, and foreign law in the world. The degree is especially valuable for those seeking careers or scholarly work involving cross-border legal issues or legal systems outside the United States.
