The MPH in Occupational Health Sciences - Industrial Hygiene at University of Michigan School of Public Health trains graduate students to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, communicate, and control workplace and environmental factors that may affect workers’ health and safety. The curriculum integrates core public health and environmental health sciences coursework with specialized industrial hygiene training, covering anticipation and recognition of hazards, exposure assessment, hazard control, program management, and ethical and leadership responsibilities. Students gain multidisciplinary technical foundations via courses in toxicology, exposure analysis, occupational diseases, ergonomics, program management, hazard control, and professional seminars. A required internship and Applied Practice Experience (APEx) typically take place during the summer before the second year. The program is CEPH and ABET accredited and emphasizes preparation for certification (CIH) and diverse leadership careers in occupational and environmental health.
