The Master of Music in Conducting at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance is a rigorous and highly-ranked graduate program offering three specialized tracks: Choral, Band/Wind Ensemble, and Orchestral Conducting. Each track is founded on intensive, individualized mentorship from major artist-teachers. The curriculum emphasizes development of advanced technical conducting and rehearsal skills, aural training, score study, music theory and musicology, and hands-on leadership of diverse ensembles. Students benefit from abundant conducting opportunities (including major and chamber ensembles) and performance projects, as well as exposure to both canonical repertoire and new music through the school's commitment to commissioning. A final conducting recital or project is required. Alumni are noted for their comprehensive training and leadership in the profession.
