The Master of Arts in International and Regional Studies (MIRS) at the University of Michigan's College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) is an interdisciplinary graduate program. It is anchored in the International Institute and allows students to specialize in thematic or regional concentrations, such as African, South Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle Eastern & North African, or Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies. The program offers broad area and advanced language training, ideal for students with regional interests or in-country experience who seek advanced academic, professional, or policy-oriented careers. MIRS students complete a 36-credit curriculum over two years, including two core courses, a graduate colloquium, and professional development workshops. At least 27 credits are taken in their chosen area of specialization across multiple academic disciplines at the 400 level or above. Each specialization draws on the expertise of world-class faculty and offers engagement opportunities with regional research centers.
