The Bachelor of Science in Information (BSI) at the University of Michigan School of Information (UMSI) is an interdisciplinary undergraduate program designed to prepare students to analyze data, design technology, and solve real-world problems at the intersection of people, information, and technology. The curriculum develops technical skills in programming and data manipulation while integrating studies from psychology, business, communications, and ethics. Students specialize in one of two pathways: Information Analysis (focusing on data analytics, communication, and evidence-based solutions) or User Experience Design (focusing on human-centered design of interactive systems). The program includes core courses, electives, and a capstone project sequence involving real-world clients, with required participation in the UMSI community from as early as the sophomore year starting fall 2025.
