The Bachelor of Music in Musicology at the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre & Dance is designed for students aiming to teach music history, work in media (radio, television, journalism), or pursue advanced studies in musicology. The curriculum requires at least 120 credits—75% within SMTD and 25% within the liberal arts—and includes musicology, ethnomusicology, early music, music theory, ensemble participation, and private lessons. Applicants are expected to have several years of study on a principal instrument or voice; orchestral and chamber music experience are encouraged; piano study is recommended.
