The Bachelor of Science in Sound Engineering program at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance prepares students for technical and creative careers in the music technology industry. Graduates are equipped to design, develop, and test audio hardware and software, work in acoustical engineering, sound recording, and studio production. The curriculum combines music technology courses (such as computer music composition, sound recording and production, music theory, studio production, and technical ear training) with rigorous coursework in mathematics (12 credits), physics (10 credits), and electrical engineering (20 credits). Applicants should demonstrate strong proficiency in mathematics and physics, a high level of proficiency on an acoustic instrument, and experience with music recording and production technologies. The engineering classes required for this program also fulfill a minor in Electrical Engineering through the College of Engineering.
