The Master in Teaching (M.I.T.) at the University of Washington College of Education is a graduate-level teacher preparation program designed for individuals seeking initial teacher certification in Washington State. The program offers tracks for both elementary and secondary teaching. It combines rigorous coursework in education theory, teaching methods, learning psychology, and social justice with extensive supervised fieldwork in local K-12 schools. The clinical practice component begins early in the program and provides hands-on experience in diverse classrooms. Upon successful completion of the program, students receive a master's degree and are eligible for Washington State Residency Teacher Certification with at least one teaching endorsement.
