The MEd in Instruction and Learning – Foreign Language Education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Education is a professional master's program focused on advanced study in teaching and learning foreign languages. The program targets practicing or returning foreign language teachers who wish to deepen their understanding of current methodologies, research, and trends in foreign language education. The curriculum does not lead to initial teacher certification but emphasizes new developments in language instruction and practice-based approaches. The program is also suitable for international students interested in teaching English or other languages in their home countries. Students may complete some course work in a specific foreign language at the graduate level and may include up to 6 credits from approved graduate study-abroad programs. A comprehensive exam is required in the final term. Six credits from graduate study-abroad programs may count toward the degree.
