The University of Pittsburgh’s MSW/MBA Joint Degree is a graduate program coordinated by the School of Social Work and the Katz Graduate School of Business. The program equips students with advanced social work practice and robust business management competencies, preparing graduates for leadership roles in nonprofit, public, and private sectors. The curriculum combines social work knowledge—including psychosocial assessment and community engagement—with MBA training in management, financial operations, data-driven decision making, marketing, and strategic planning. Students benefit from double-counted credits toward both degrees, reducing total required coursework. Initially, this dual-degree is open to students in the Community Organization and Social Action (COSA) track, with plans to extend to all MSW full-time students. Admission requires separate applications to both schools, GRE or GMAT scores, and fulfillment of each program’s prerequisites. Students with accredited undergraduate social work degrees may qualify for advanced standing, potentially reducing required MSW credits.
