The University of Pittsburgh’s online MSN – School Nursing major prepares licensed registered nurses to practice as specialist school nurses, addressing complex health needs within school communities. The program builds on the online School Nurse PK-12 Certificate, supports both Level 1 and Level 2 Pennsylvania school nurse certification requirements, and emphasizes evidence-based practice, ethical care, communication, cultural diversity, public policy, and social determinants of health. The program is taught by Pitt faculty and includes both theoretical and practicum experience, the latter to be completed in-person at a school site selected by the student and approved by faculty. Graduates are prepared for opportunities in elementary, middle, and secondary school settings in both public and private sectors. The program is entirely online, with full-time and part-time options.
