The MPH in Behavioral and Community Health Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Public Health trains students to engage communities and apply social/behavioral theory, research methods, and program evaluation skills to promote public health. The curriculum emphasizes understanding and intervening on behavioral, organizational, and community factors that influence health, practical coursework in program planning and evaluation, and a supervised 200-hour community practicum to gain real-world public health experience. Core courses cover biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental health, policy, and health communication, with electives tailored to individual interests. Students also complete a thesis or essay that synthesizes knowledge to address a public health issue.
