The MS in Information Science with a concentration in Telecommunications and Distributed Systems at the University of Pittsburgh focuses on developing technical and managerial expertise in one of the fastest-growing information technology fields. The curriculum covers networking protocols, distributed systems, client-server architectures, distributed database management, web services, wireless networks, and security—the foundation for designing and managing complex information systems in networked environments. Graduates are equipped to address challenges in deploying, designing, and protecting distributed applications, client-server, and peer-to-peer systems for sectors including telecommunications, health care, finance, and e-business. The program consists of five required core MSIS courses and a Telecommunications and Distributed Systems plan of study that mandates specific required and elective courses within this specialization.
