The Africana Studies-English BA at the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, University of Pittsburgh, is an interdisciplinary joint major combining Africana Studies and English. The program seeks to give students broad exposure to African, African American, and Caribbean history, literature, and culture through both the humanities and social sciences. Students develop a robust understanding of the Black experience and literature in the context of global and transnational issues. The curriculum includes core courses, literature courses from both departments, and aims to prepare students for careers or further studies in education, public policy, communications, law, and the arts.
