The Bachelor of Arts in Chinese at the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, University of Pittsburgh, offers students an intensive curriculum covering the Chinese language (beginner to advanced), literature, history, philosophy, cinema, art, and contemporary culture. The program requires 55 credits, with mandatory core language training in the first, second, and third years, complemented by courses in literature, linguistics, culture, film, and the opportunity to take interdisciplinary courses with significant China-related content from other departments. The curriculum is designed to achieve advanced-level Chinese proficiency and deep cultural competency in 3 to 4 years of study. Senior students complete a capstone project, and students are encouraged to participate in study abroad and scholarship opportunities. Courses are structured for learners of all backgrounds, with an integrated skill approach to speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The program is suitable for those pursuing advanced academic study or careers in international business, education, government, or cultural exchange.
