Statistics is the science and art of making informed decisions in the face of uncertainty and variability in data. The Bachelor of Science in Statistics at Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, University of Pittsburgh, provides students with a rigorous foundation in statistical reasoning, probabilistic modeling, data analysis, and applied quantitative methods. Students learn to understand variability in measurements, collaborate across scientific disciplines, and interpret data within scientific, engineering, economic, medical, and social contexts. The program prepares graduates for roles in research, industry, government, and further graduate study by combining theoretical knowledge with applied skills. The BS in Statistics requires a minimum of 50 credits of major coursework, and students are encouraged to take electives from behavioral, natural, physical, and social sciences to complement their statistical training.
