The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (B.S.I.E) at the Swanson School of Engineering, University of Pittsburgh, provides a multidisciplinary curriculum focusing on the integrated design, improvement, and installation of systems involving people, materials, information, equipment, and energy. Students receive rigorous training in mathematical, physical, and social sciences combined with engineering principles and methods to solve real-world problems in manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, finance, law, consulting, and more. The program consists of 40 courses, offers six concentrations (including Data Analytics, Operations Research & Computer Modeling, Product Development & Manufacturing Systems, Engineering Management, Customized Research, and Health Systems Engineering), and requires a capstone design course. Emphasis is placed on quantitative coursework, flexible technical electives, co-op or internship opportunities, study abroad, and exposure to humanities/social sciences. Nearly half of the students complete at least three co-op rotations; international/global perspectives are integrated throughout the curriculum. The program is recognized as one of the oldest and top-ranked in the United States.
