The Bachelor of Science in Emergency Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences prepares students for careers in emergency medical services (EMS), provides advanced clinical and leadership skills, and is a pathway for further study in medical, physician assistant, or nursing graduate programs. Uncommonly for undergraduate programs, students gain extensive hands-on training through more than 544 hours in over 70 clinical placements. Two paths are available: Junior Entry, for students transferring in 60 prerequisite credits and EMT certification (2 years of study), and Degree Completion, for certified paramedics or advanced tactical paramedics with 51 prerequisite credits (1 year, available fully online or on campus).
