The BS in Computational Biology at the University of Pittsburgh is a cross-disciplinary undergraduate major jointly administered by the Department of Biological Sciences (Dietrich School) and the Department of Computer Science (School of Computing and Information). It trains students in computer programming, laboratory techniques, mathematics, statistics, and biological sciences, providing them with the skills needed for graduate studies or careers in computational biology. The curriculum includes foundational coursework in biology and computer science, advanced courses such as biochemistry, algorithms, data science, and specialized computational biology topics. Students gain hands-on experience through labs, seminars, a capstone/research project, and electives selected from upper-level courses in biology, chemistry, and computer science.
