The Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Science at the University of Virginia explores the interdisciplinary study of the mind and its processes, spanning core areas such as cognitive psychology, neuroscience, linguistics, philosophy, and computer science. Students complete 10 courses (at least 30 credits), one each from the five core areas, a calculus course, two upper-level concentration courses, and two or more electives. The curriculum is designed to enable breadth as well as depth, supporting students interested in scientific research or interdisciplinary understanding of cognition. For distinction (Distinguished Major Program), students complete additional supervised research and a thesis. All courses for the major must be passed with a C or better, and students must maintain an in-major GPA of 2.0 or above.
