The University of Virginia College of Arts and Sciences offers both Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees in Physics. The B.A. is designed for students interested in physics with plans to enter related professional fields such as engineering, medicine, education, business, or law, and for those seeking a strong liberal arts education in Physics. The B.S. is more rigorous, preparing students for graduate study and research in physics or related technical fields. Both degrees emphasize core concepts such as mechanics, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, and computational methods. Students can select electives to strengthen preparation in applied physics, computation, or interdisciplinary applications. All required courses must be passed with at least a 'C.'
