The BA in Anthropology and Irish at Queen's University Belfast provides an interdisciplinary education that explores what it means to be human by examining global cultural diversity and comparative societies, while simultaneously offering intensive study in the Irish language and culture. Students receive education in both written and spoken Irish (covering syntax, phonetics, semantics, and more), alongside modules on Irish literature, mythology, folklore, translation, rights, film, and linguistics. The growth of Gaelic identity and aspects of modern and traditional Irish society are central themes. A distinctive feature is the annual residential course in the Gaeltacht, providing immersion in Irish-speaking environments. The program also equips students with critical thinking, independent research, cross-cultural communication, fieldwork, and presentation skills. Career prospects are strong, and Queen's has well-established links with Irish language sectors, media, and academic institutes.
