The BA Social Policy and Sociology at Queen's University Belfast is a joint honours undergraduate programme in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, designed to integrate the disciplines of Social Policy and Sociology. Students acquire analytical, research, and critical skills to explore major policy issues—such as gender and ethnic inequality, eldercare, children's rights, and sustainability—by applying social science concepts. The course covers how governments and other sectors formulate policies impacting welfare; examines comparative policies internationally; and engages contemporary debates on needs, social problems, and state/private intervention. Sociology modules provide a foundation for understanding global and individual social phenomena through methodological and theoretical tools, equipping graduates to approach social issues as engaged citizens. The programme provides multidisciplinary insights from politics, sociology, economics, and law, and develops highly relevant skills for employment or further study in social sciences.
