Arizona State University's Bachelor of Science in Ocean Futures (Coastal and Marine Sciences), offered by the College of Global Futures’ School of Ocean Futures, prepares students for leadership and innovation in the stewardship of our oceans. The curriculum integrates natural sciences (such as marine biology, chemistry, oceanography, and coral reef ecology) with coursework on ocean conservation, ethnobotany, and human-ocean interactions. Students receive training in both quantitative and qualitative approaches to solving complex coastal and marine challenges, aiming for pragmatic solutions that balance environmental health, economic vitality, and community well-being. This program is designed for students passionate about addressing global marine challenges and is particularly well-suited to those considering further study, such as ASU’s master’s in coastal and marine science and management. Experiential learning options include study-abroad fieldwork at sites such as the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences. Graduates typically pursue careers in marine research, conservation, ocean policy, technology, fisheries, education, and environmental management.
