The Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern University's Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science prepares graduates for roles in research, development, and further education. The program emphasizes engineering methods for understanding biological and physiological processes and applying these concepts to medical problems. Research areas span biomechanics, regenerative engineering, imaging, neural engineering, and more. Students may take the program with or without a thesis, with thesis completion usually requiring full-time research over four quarters. The curriculum requires 9 graduate-level courses plus seminars, research projects, and defense of a master's thesis (if selected).
