The Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University's Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering offers a broad-based curriculum that covers the fundamental scientific principles governing the relationships among processing, structure, properties, and performance of materials. The program is accredited by ABET and is designed to prepare students for practice as engineers, further graduate study, or careers in broader fields such as law, medicine, or business. Students can choose from multiple areas of concentration, participate in hands-on courses such as MatSci 195 and 190, and complete a capstone senior project with faculty research groups. The curriculum’s flexibility supports exploration of diverse applications including biomaterials, nanotechnology, energy, and sustainable systems.
