The Master of Education in World Languages at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College prepares educators to teach Spanish, French, German, Latin, or Mandarin in K-12 settings. The program is designed to address the nationwide shortage of world language teachers by equipping graduates with advanced knowledge in linguistics, intercultural communication, and language pedagogy. Students also earn K-12 English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement. The curriculum includes 33 credit hours grounded in both Peabody’s Multilingual Learner Education and Secondary Education programs. Faculty in the program are recognized leaders in language acquisition. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in their target language via the ACTFL test and typically need to have completed an undergraduate major in that language/culture. Pre K-12 licensure is available in select languages. The program features fall admissions and offers both traditional and accelerated tracks. Rolling admissions continue beyond the February priority deadlines as space allows.
