The MSN Nurse-Midwifery/Family Nurse Practitioner Dual Focus at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing prepares graduates for advanced clinical roles as both certified nurse-midwives and family nurse practitioners. Students gain comprehensive academic and clinical education, completing over 1,000 hours of supervised clinical practice covering women's health, labor & delivery, primary care, and family medicine. The program uses a hybrid model with a combination of online courses, on-campus intensives, and extensive clinical rotations, some of which may occur outside the Nashville area to provide diverse practice settings. Graduates are eligible to take national certification exams for both nurse-midwifery (AMCB) and family nurse practitioner (AANP and ANCC) credentials, opening a wide range of career opportunities in primary care, obstetrics, community health clinics, birthing centers, and global health. Funding opportunities exist for those interested in rural and underserved populations through programs such as CAP and MEADOW.
