Marine & Freshwater Biology at the University of Glasgow focuses on the biological, ecological and evolutionary processes in both marine and freshwater systems. The program combines state-of-the-art, research-led teaching with laboratory and field work, and covers genetics, molecular methods, ecological fieldwork, and conservation strategies. The first two years provide a broad foundation in biology, while years 3–4 focus on advanced topics including marine ecology, invertebrate and vertebrate biology, molecular ecology, environmental impact assessment and practical skills. The MSci option adds a placement year spent on research in industry or research institutes. Students undertake an independent research project in their final year, sometimes resulting in scientific publications.
