MIT AeroAstro’s SB (Course 16) provides a deep working knowledge of aerospace fundamentals and hands-on design/build/test experiences. The unified core covers materials and structures, aerodynamics and fluids, thermodynamics, dynamics, signals/systems/circuits, propulsion, control, programming, and statistics, primarily through the two-term Unified Engineering sequence. The program culminates with aerospace laboratories and a capstone design experience (e.g., flight engineering and development; systems engineering and development; robotics science and systems; advanced manufacturing for aerospace engineers; and, effective Fall 2025, design and testing of autonomous vehicles). Both Course 16 and 16‑ENG are ABET-accredited undergraduate degrees offered by the department; Course 16 is the traditional aerospace engineering SB.
