MIT’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP, Course 11) in the School of Architecture and Planning offers the Bachelor of Science in Planning (SB) as an interdisciplinary pre‑professional major preparing students for careers in public and private sectors and for graduate study in areas such as law, public policy, environmental policy, economic development, urban design, management, and planning. The curriculum teaches how tools from economics, policy analysis, political science, and urban design can be used to address social and environmental problems, emphasizing the skills and responsibilities of planners who promote effective and equitable social change. Students benefit from MIT’s open cross‑registration culture and SA+P’s ecosystem, including labs and client-based courses that provide field-based problem‑solving experience.
