The Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in Dance at the Claire Trevor School of the Arts, University of California, Irvine, is a two-year, full-time graduate program designed for individuals with a substantial background in dance seeking to advance their creative, scholarly, and choreographic skills. Students engage in diverse coursework ranging from graduate dance technique, kinesiology, video technology, choreography, and research methods, culminating in a thesis project, which is typically a choreographic work with a supporting paper, or another approved dance research focus. The program leverages the expertise of 15 full-time faculty, extensive studio resources, and performance opportunities to foster new artistic and academic directions. Most students receive financial support through fellowships and teaching or research employment. Graduates pursue careers in higher education, choreography, company leadership, and further doctoral study.
