The Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering at UCI offers multidisciplinary, research-driven training across four key thrust areas: Biophotonics, Biomedical Micro/Nanoscale Systems, Bioimaging & Computation, and Molecular & Cellular Engineering. The program is designed for students from engineering, physical science, or biological science backgrounds seeking advanced knowledge and research capabilities in biomedical engineering. The curriculum consists of core courses in molecular and cellular engineering, sensory motor systems, organ transport systems, applied engineering mathematics, and clinical medicine. Students complete a minimum of 42 units, including core requirements, electives from UCI's engineering, medical, or science schools, three quarters of seminars, and at least four units of independent research. The program culminates in a focused research project, requiring a written thesis approved by a faculty committee. UCI’s Department of Biomedical Engineering boasts extensive research resources and close collaboration with local biomedical industries, preparing graduates for research, industry, or academic careers.
