UC Irvine's BA in Film and Media Studies (School of Humanities) offers students a comprehensive, interdisciplinary education covering the history, theory, and practice of film, television, digital media, and video games. The program focuses equally on theoretical analysis and hands-on production/screenwriting, equipping students to navigate and analyze the dynamic contemporary media landscape. Major topics include global cinema, broadcast studies, new media, gender studies, and critical game studies. Students benefit from the university's proximity to the entertainment industry and gain real-world experience via internships, student clubs, and study abroad. All courses for the major must be taken for letter grades, and at least five upper-division courses must be completed at UCI. Alumni pursue graduate studies and diverse media careers in film, TV, gaming, journalism, advertising, and more.
