Global Cultures is an innovative undergraduate major at UC Irvine's School of Humanities designed to explore the problems and processes of globalization from a humanistic perspective. The program equips students with analytical skills and broad knowledge to understand global diversity and complexity. Emphasizing multidisciplinary study, students select a primary and secondary geographic emphasis from diverse regions and engage in coursework across many humanities and social sciences departments. The curriculum requires 14 courses (56 units), including foundational courses such as 'Global Cultures I' and 'II,' a senior seminar, world history, and emphasis-specific electives. Participation in study abroad and competency in a language other than English are strongly encouraged.
