The BA in Education Studies and Human Relations at the University of Iowa's College of Education is a multidisciplinary program blending educational theory with the dynamics of human interaction. Students receive a broad liberal arts and sciences education while building critical thinking, leadership, and interpersonal communication skills. The program allows students to tailor their coursework by choosing between general Education Studies and Human Relations or selecting one of two subprograms: Education Studies (focusing on education policy, assessment, program management, learning technologies, etc.) or Human Relations (focusing on helping professions, counseling, case management, and health service psychology). Core courses cover educational psychology, foundations of education, teaching as a human endeavor, and counseling for related professions. The curriculum is complemented by electives and diversity/multiculturalism courses, with a minimum of 18 credit hours required to be taken at the University of Iowa. Graduates are prepared for a variety of education-related careers (excluding teacher licensure) or for further graduate study.
