The MLA program at UMass Amherst, accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB), is one of the oldest and most distinguished programs in the United States. It prepares students for professional leadership in landscape architecture, focusing on theoretical, historical, cultural, environmental, and technical dimensions. The curriculum features intensive studio and skill training, addressing design issues ranging from urban and rural landscapes to sustainability, climate adaptation, and equitable redevelopment. The program integrates design theory with hands-on projects and offers dual degree options (MLA/MRP in Regional Planning, MArch/MLA in Architecture, MLA/MD in Historic Preservation). Graduates play key roles in solving 21st-century landscape and environmental challenges.
