The Bachelor of Arts in Computational Linguistics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, starting in Fall 2025, is offered by the Department of Linguistics within the College of Humanities & Fine Arts. It is one of the few such programs in the country and the only one of its type at a public institution in the Northeast. The interdisciplinary curriculum leverages the strengths of both the Department of Linguistics and the Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS). Students will learn to use computing for solving language-related problems, develop software/programming skills for language data analysis, and obtain mathematical sophistication for foundational computational algorithms. Graduates will be prepared for careers in the language technology (NLP) industry or further graduate studies. The program particularly emphasizes diversity and inclusion and aims to train students from underrepresented groups in STEM.
