The new Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (College of Engineering) begins in Fall 2025. This standalone major prepares students to design, construct, and operate projects that protect human health and the environment, including ensuring clean drinking water, reclaiming wastewater, managing air quality, and remediating contaminated sites. The curriculum emphasizes foundational sciences (math, chemistry, physics) in the first years, with specialized electives and research in upper years in fields like water quality/treatment, sustainability, pollution, and resource management. Students benefit from access to state-of-the-art facilities, research centers (e.g., Northeast Climate Adaptation Science Center), and hands-on experiences. The program is aligned with the college’s goals for sustainability, preparing graduates for impact in industry, research, or further study.
