The MA in Mental Health Counseling & Behavioral Medicine at Boston University's Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine is a CACREP-accredited, clinically focused graduate program designed to prepare students for independent licensure as mental health counselors in Massachusetts and many other states. The curriculum integrates core counseling competencies with rigorous training in behavioral medicine, health psychology, and neuroscience. Students must complete approximately 1,000 hours of clinical fieldwork in diverse settings such as hospitals, schools, addiction centers, and private practice. The program emphasizes evidence-based practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and prepares graduates for roles in direct care, advocacy, and sometimes further doctoral study. It is the only program of its kind accredited by CACREP and housed in a medical school, reflecting its unique depth in health-related counseling.
