The Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling & Behavioral Medicine at Boston University’s Graduate Medical Sciences (Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine) is a full-time, in-person program based at the Medical Campus. This CACREP-accredited, two-year (60-credit) curriculum is unique in its integration of counseling, behavioral medicine, and neuroscience, and is the only such program housed in a medical school in the United States. The program prepares graduates for independent licensure as mental health counselors (LMHC) in Massachusetts and supports requirements for other U.S. states. Students engage in approximately 1,000 hours of supervised clinical practicum and internship, with placements across more than 100 partnering agencies in the Boston area, including major hospitals, counseling centers, and forensic settings. The curriculum is tailored to meet the needs of diverse populations, emphasizing best clinical practices, social justice, and advocacy. The program admits for the Fall semester only and delivers rigorous academic and clinical preparation for evidence-based counseling careers.
