The Master of Science in Medical Sciences (MAMS) at Boston University School of Medicine is one of the oldest and most recognized Special Master’s Programs in the United States, designed to strengthen students’ academic credentials for medical or health-professions schools. The curriculum covers a broad range of medical sciences with core courses similar to the first-year medical curriculum (including Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Physiology, and Immunology), and offers elective options in areas such as public health, clinical research, and mental health counseling. The program requires a laboratory- or literature-based thesis, and advising is comprehensive to aid medical school application success. Most students finish in one or two years, with the second year often used for research or clinical experience. The program is highly suitable for students intending to pursue medicine or other health-related advanced degrees.
